Noite da saudade – contra mestre Zé Baixinho

Noite de saudade is a very beautiful capoeira song, incorporating capoeira instruments and the violin together. It was written by contra mestre Zé Baixinho of Grupo Mundo Capoeira as a tribute to Antonio Jacaré, perhaps Mestre Jacaré, a mestre who was doing capoeira in Belo Horizonte in the 70s (can anyone confirm this?).

Contra mestre Zé Baixinho, a professor then, was many years in dublin with Mestrando Sansão before the foundation of Grupo Mundo Capoeira. The group was founded in 2007 and the founders back then were:
Antonio Nunes (Mestre Dendê) BA
Sansão A. Maia (Mestrando Sansão) MG
Samuel (Mestrando Samuca) MG
André Luiz (Prof. Zebaixinho) MG
Fabricio Morais (Inst. Popeye) MG
Adelson Maia (Inst. Feijaozinho) MG
Amuleto (Graduado) BELGIUM
After this, contra mestre Zé Baixinho returned to Belo Horizonte.

Here I would like to thank a friend of mine in mundo capoeira, for sharing this info. Pernalonga, if you are reading this, thank you very much friend.

Here is an awesome performance with berimbau and violin, sung by contra mestre Zé Baixinho.

PORTUGUES

Hoje a lua não brilhou no céu
hoje meu berimbau não tocou
hoje meu pandeiro está mudo
hoje meu atabaque não falou

Hoje meu mestre não veio pra roda
até quem não é de falta faltou
hoje nem Bimba nem seu Pastinha
veio pôr a bençao em seu jogador

Hoje agachado ao pé do berimbau
confesso que eu não tive aquele axé
hoje a comunidade está mais triste
sentindo a falta de Antonio Jacaré

ENGLISH

Today the moon didn't shine in the sky
today my berimbau didn't play
today my pandeiro is dumb
today my atabaque did not speak

Today my master didn't come to the roda
until who isn't missing is missed
today nor Bimba nor Pastinha
came to put the blessing in their player

Today stooped to the foot of berimbau
I confess that I didn't have his axé
today the community is sadder
feeling the lack of Antonio Jacaré

Nice to see them performing

Nice to see them performing in person, it's what our video was missing. Thanks for posting :)

The idea to make this song

The idea to make this song with violin belongs to russia branch of mundo capoeira.

First time it became public was on the mundo capoeira event in belgium 2007
check out the video where Ze Baixinho and Russian aluno Violino (the guy you can see here playing the violin) perfom together.

As I heard, Antonio Jacare

As I heard, Antonio Jacare was Zé's brother, but I'm not sure of this.
Zé Baixinho left Mundo Capoeira a while ago (a year or something).

The song of this youtube video (which is mine btw :D) comes from the cd "Parte de um Sonho" which Mestre Dendê recorded in Belgium with Zé Baixinho and others.

Via this link (http://www.capoeira.be/2009/html/media_audio.html) you can listen to the entire album.
