barrão-capoeira-song.jpg

Written by Mestre Barrão, this passionate song talks of the transformative power of capoeira - the beauty and strength not only of the art itself but also that which it imbues in it's practitioners. As the head of Grupo Axé Capoeira, Mestre Barrão is world renowned for his skill and teaching. He is a prodigious composer whose music is rooted in the authentic traditions of Brazil, just watch him play atabaque to see a man who feels and works with strong Axé!

Noite da saudade – contra mestre Zé Baixinho

baixinho-capoeira-song.jpeg

Noite de saudade is a very beautiful capoeira song, incorporating capoeira instruments and the violin together. It was written by contra mestre Zé Baixinho of Grupo Mundo Capoeira as a tribute to Antonio Jacaré, perhaps Mestre Jacaré, a mestre who was doing capoeira in Belo Horizonte in the 70s (can anyone confirm this?).

The warrior strives to improve: capoeira quotes

zumbi-capoeira.jpg

Hi guys I collated a few of my favourite quotes together. Many of these are from famous capoeira masters but not all... Hope you find inspiration from these like I do.

"Why is patience so important for capoeira?.
"Because it makes you pay more attention in what you are learning."

(Contra-Mestre Casquinha)

“The flame of this beautiful art is now in your hands. You can dampen it, you can burn yourself or your brothers and sisters, or, afraid of its heat, you can let go of it. I hope that you take good care of your capoeira and kindle this fire alive and powerful, enlightening your life”. (Mestre Acordeon)

ONE DAY OF TRAINING "A WARRIOR - THOUGHTS AND REFLECTIONS"

The tiredness was obvious; the sweat that ran down the faces of the capoeiristas was the clear to see. The end of a capoeira training.

The persistence in the repetitions made the body assimilate what the mind was thinking, and when it does so, it is all the better for training. And so it was, the training of the capoeiristas...

A Warrior in the Universe of Capoeira

young-capoeiristas.jpg

I noticed that a boy around his six years of age, he kept moving with the music, at every moment he was smiling and when someone went out to play he was even more happy, and I knew, that if we put him in the middle of roda he would kick his legs up, he would do cartwheel like a true capoeira. Said and done, I told a friend who called the boy to play and the boy went inside the roda doing cartwheel!
